‘Myths’ about solicitor training outside London highlighted

Recruitment site Targetjobs has spoken out about what it sees as the “myths” which abound about training to be a solicitor outside the capital.

Firstly, it says that clients are not necessarily more prestigious in London and cites the example of the Co-Op’s buy-out of Somerfield which was handled by a regional law firm. At the same time, the legal work is not necessarily inferior just because of geographic location, it says. Regional law firms regularly deal with high-profile cases and many are respected as experts or specialists in a certain legal field.

The recruitment site says that in its experience, many candidates are concerned that they’ll earn significantly less by not training and working as a solicitor in London. However, although wages are likely to be lower, this is also reflected in the lower cost of living outside of London.

Finally it quashes the myth that living outside London as a lawyer is somehow less fun, pointing out that major cities in the UK offer plenty of cultural and leisure opportunities.
